The Tunnel Maintenance Division of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking motivated individuals to fill the position of Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic. In this role, you will be responsible for a range of tasks, including analytical assessments, preventative maintenance, and repairs for a fleet of construction vehicles, trucks, and cars powered by gasoline or diesel engines. Your work will involve maintaining and repairing various systems, such as hydraulic, electric, heating, cooling, and both manual and automatic transmissions. In this position, you will be responsible for repairing and overhauling various vehicles, including cars, trucks, and tractors, as well as performing maintenance on equipment like sweepers and front-end loaders. Your tasks will include replacing parts such as shock absorbers, transmissions, and brakes, balancing wheels, checking alignment, and conducting minor body repairs. Additionally, you will overhaul and test alternators and electrical components, ensuring everything is in working order.
You will also implement a preventative maintenance program for vehicles and equipment, which involves performing diagnostics, tune-ups, and tire changes. Your role will require you to repair and adjust systems related to cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air conditioning, as well as maintaining fuel, brake, steering, and transmission systems. Furthermore, you will be tasked with repairing or rebuilding construction and shop equipment.
As part of your duties, you will conduct official state inspections for safety and emissions on assigned vehicles, making necessary repairs to meet compliance standards. This includes road testing vehicles, completing inspection stickers, and maintaining accurate State Inspection Records. You will utilize diagnostic equipment to identify issues and determine the appropriate repair methods, tools, and parts needed. Additionally, you will maintain motorized hand equipment, such as chain saws and compressors, and report any missing parts or broken equipment as needed.
