Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Manager serves as the operational leader of a high-volume Sterile Processing Department (SPD), responsible for driving performance, ensuring compliance, and maintaining consistent, high-quality outcomes across all shifts. This role blends leadership, process optimization, and hands-on operational oversight in a critical function supporting surgical care.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee 24/7 SPD operations, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and performance
- Develop staffing models and manage scheduling across all shifts
- Monitor productivity, turnaround times, and workflow efficiency
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop Sterile Processing Supervisors
- Drive accountability, performance management, and succession planning
- Foster a professional, engaged, and high-performing team culture
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with AAMI, CDC, CMS, and Joint Commission standards
- Maintain audit readiness and oversee inspections and corrective actions
- Implement and monitor quality assurance and process improvement initiatives
Operations & Resource Management
- Manage inventory, instrument tracking, and supply utilization
- Oversee equipment maintenance and vendor coordination
- Maintain budget accountability while ensuring quality and safety standards
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze performance metrics and implement workflow improvements
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Drive efficiency, accuracy, and defect reduction
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with clinical, logistics, and operational teams
- Communicate risks, trends, and operational needs to leadership
- Align SPD performance with surgical demand and schedules
Required Qualifications
- CRCST certification (required)
- 5+ years of sterile processing experience
- 3+ years of leadership experience (multi-shift operations preferred)
- Strong knowledge of sterile processing regulations and infection control standards
- Proven experience managing staffing, workflows, and operational metrics
Preferred Qualifications
- CHL or CIS certification
- Experience in high-volume, high-acuity surgical environments
- Experience leading supervisors or frontline leaders
Additional Information:
- Location: Modesto, CA 95350
- Shift: Shift: Flexible (based on department needs)
- Schedule: 40 hours per week (5x8 shifts)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Pay range: $40-$45/hour
Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.
