Construction Project Manager
Home based with Regional Travel
Direct Path to Director of Construction
Build projects. Build systems. Build the construction platform.
Barefoot Land Co. is hiring a Construction Project Manager to help lead the execution of ground-up Class A self-storage developments across multiple U.S. markets.
This is a home-based role designed for someone who wants more than a traditional project management seat. You will start by gaining boots-on-the-ground exposure to how our projects are built, then take increasing ownership over execution, contractor accountability, project controls, and field performance across a growing portfolio.
For the right person, this is not just a PM role. It is a clear path toward senior construction leadership, with the opportunity to grow into a Director of Construction role as the company scales.
This is not a full-time travel role and it is not a desk-only PM position. It is a hybrid leadership role for someone who wants meaningful responsibility, purposeful field presence, and the chance to help shape how construction is run inside a growing development company.
About Barefoot Land Co.
Barefoot Land Co. is a national developer of Class A self-storage facilities, focused on disciplined execution, smart site selection, strong project oversight, and long-term value creation. We are building a lean, high-performing company where strong operators can make a real impact without layers of bureaucracy.
Why This Role Stands Out
Direct path to Director of Construction for a strong performer
Home-based role with regional travel, not constant road-warrior travel
Real ownership over active ground-up developments
Direct exposure to company leadership and decision-making
Opportunity to help build and improve the company's construction systems
Blend of project leadership, field execution, and strategic influence
High-autonomy environment for someone who wants to do more than just maintain schedules
What This Role Looks Like
You will serve as an owner-side construction leader overseeing multiple projects from handoff through closeout. Your job is to make sure projects are progressing the right way in the field, contractors are being held accountable, problems are identified early, and execution stays aligned with company expectations.
You will work from your home base the majority of the time, while traveling to active projects on a regular, planned basis to verify progress, solve issues, and maintain strong field visibility.
Typical travel cadence:
Usually about once per week
Typically 2–3 days at a time
Focused on active site oversight, contractor meetings, issue resolution, and milestone validation
Travel is purposeful and tied to project needs, not unnecessary busywork
What You'll Own
Lead construction execution from pre-construction handoff through final turnover
Oversee 2–3 active ground-up projects across multiple markets
Drive schedule accountability, budget awareness, and contractor performance
Conduct site visits to verify progress, workmanship, safety, and execution quality
Identify project risks early and help implement corrective actions before they affect cost or schedule
Lead contractor coordination calls and internal project reviews
Maintain project reporting, dashboards, updates, and controls
Oversee inspections, punch lists, closeout items, and turnover readiness
Act as a trusted field and execution partner to company leadership
Help improve the way Barefoot Land Co. manages construction across a growing pipeline
What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months
In your first year, a successful candidate will:
Learn our construction standards, reporting expectations, and execution model firsthand
Take ownership of multiple active developments across assigned markets
Improve visibility into schedules, contractor performance, and field execution
Build trust with leadership through reliable follow-through and sound judgment
Help create repeatable systems for project oversight and accountability
Position themselves for expanded responsibility and a clear path toward Director of Construction
The Growth Opportunity
This role is intentionally designed for someone who wants to grow.
The early phase of the role includes meaningful field time because we want this person to understand our projects from the ground up, develop firsthand knowledge of our standards, and become deeply credible in execution. From there, the right person will take on broader ownership across the portfolio and play a key role in shaping our construction function.
For a high performer, this role can evolve into:
Senior Construction Project Manager
Head of Construction Operations
Director of Construction
If you want a role where you can eventually help lead the entire construction side of a growing development company, this opportunity is built for that.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in commercial construction project management, owner's rep, or a similar field leadership role
Experience with ground-up commercial construction projects
Ability to manage multiple active projects at the same time
Strong understanding of plans, specifications, construction sequencing, and field execution
Experience working with general contractors and holding them accountable to schedule, quality, and deliverables
Strong communication skills and a high-ownership mindset
Willingness to travel regularly to job sites as part of a home-based regional role
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with self-storage, light industrial, commercial, flex, retail, or similar product types
Experience on projects in the $5M+ range
Familiarity with project management tools such as Procore, Buildertrend, or similar platforms
Strong instincts in field problem-solving and issue escalation
Comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment with high autonomy
