JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered sexual health services within Sexual Health & Wellness Clinics. This position is responsible for collecting, processing, and performing CLIA moderate-complexity and point-of-care laboratory testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

The MLT ensures accurate testing, regulatory compliance, and timely reporting of results while maintaining a confidential, inclusive, and nonjudgmental clinical environment. This role works collaboratively with providers, nurses, and clinic staff to support efficient clinic operations and a positive patient experience.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Collect, receive, label, process, and analyze patient specimens, including blood, urine, and swabs, following established laboratory protocols.
  2. Perform point-of-care, rapid, and other approved moderate-complexity laboratory tests related to STI diagnosis, including microscopy and darkfield microscopy.
  3. Accurately record, interpret, and report laboratory test results in written and electronic laboratory information systems and electronic medical records.
  4. Conduct and document quality control, quality assurance, and laboratory proficiency testing in accordance with regulatory standards.
  5. Prepare and package specimens for transport to reference and outsourced testing laboratories as required.
  6. Perform phlebotomy procedures in accordance with clinical and safety standards.
  7. Maintain laboratory equipment, including routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  8. Organize, store, and manage chemical substances, reagents, and biological materials in compliance with safety and infection control standards.
  9. Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  10. Manage laboratory inventory, track supplies, submit inventory reports, and order supplies as needed.
  11. Coordinate and communicate effectively with providers, nurses, counselors, and non-clinical staff to support efficient clinic workflow and a positive patient experience.
  12. Participate in staff meetings, training activities, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations.



Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related biological or chemical science from an accredited institution.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification through ASCP or AMT
  • Minimum of six (6) months of phlebotomy experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform laboratory testing and accurately document results.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and quality practices


SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Phlebotomy experience
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and terminology.
  • Ability to perform routine laboratory tests.
  • Ability to clean and sterilize laboratory equipment, instruments, and glassware.
  • Ability to prepare media and solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Ability to perform moderate complexity laboratory tests related to Sexually Transmitted Infections, including microscopy.
  • Strong experience with Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Strong computer skills and use of email, word, excel, and electronic medical records programs.


Contract/Contract-to-Hire Roles: Compensation: $30/hr to $35/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
