Job Summary
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily twenty-four (24) hour planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the daily operations and clinical practice of assigned patient care areas, in order to provide quality, individualized patient care and support of Medical Center philosophies.
The Nurse Manager will lead staff to model a professional practice environment by: providing a clinically competent staff; encouraging strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication; supporting autonomy and accountability; providing staff opportunities for in-service and formal education; stressing the importance of continuous learning; and supporting a culture where concern for the patient is paramount.
The Nurse Manager assumes fiscal responsibility through preparation of unit budgets, supports research, participates in both long and short term strategic planning, and assures patient advocacy. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree (in a field other than nursing) paired with a Masters of Science degree in Nursing is acceptedMinimum of two (2) years' of nursing supervisor or management experience, or equivalent combination of supervisor/managerial training and experience.Experience with staff performance appraisals.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned area.Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice.Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty areaDemonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.Ability to lead department and house wide process improvement project/initiative.Preferred QualificationsCertified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) Certification of field of practice preferred (if appropriate)
