We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of a multi-branch commercial HVAC construction and service organization. This role will be responsible for general ledger accounting, job cost analysis, financial reporting, and in-house payroll processing.

This position is ideal for an accounting professional with construction or project-based accounting experience who enjoys working closely with operations to ensure accurate job profitability and strong financial controls.

What You’ll Do

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Prepare and post monthly journal entries including accruals, payroll, prepaids, and revenue adjustments
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Prepare internal financial statements and supporting schedules
• Analyze revenue, labor, material, and overhead variances
• Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation
• Assist with audit preparation and year-end tax support
• Ensure accurate financial reporting across multiple branches
• Manage sales and use tax filings

Construction & Job Cost Accounting

• Review and analyze job cost reports for construction and service divisions
• Reconcile job cost subledger to the general ledger
• Monitor labor burden, overhead allocation, and cost coding
• Support progress billing and time-and-material billing processes
• Provide project profitability reporting to leadership

Payroll Processing

• Process weekly in-house payroll for corporate office employees
• Ensure accurate time imports and labor coding to jobs
• Reconcile payroll reports to the general ledger
• Prepare and post payroll journal entries
• Maintain payroll records and ensure confidentiality
• Ensure compliance with federal and multi-state payroll regulations

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

• Maintain strong internal controls over payroll and financial reporting
• Document accounting procedures and workflows
• Assist with system improvements and accounting automation initiatives

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Construction, mechanical contractor, or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred
• Payroll processing experience required (multi-state preferred)
• Strong understanding of job cost accounting
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems (construction-based systems a plus)
• Strong Excel skills
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational abilities
• High level of discretion with confidential financial information
