The Whalen Company has an opening for a Product Development Engineer at its Easton, Maryland location. Established in 1962, The Whalen Company is a privately owned company that manufacturers vertical stack fan coils and water source heat pumps for multi-story buildings such as: hotels, condominiums, apartments, senior living facilities, office buildings, and dormitories. All product development and manufacturing are at the Easton location.

The Product Development Engineer is an early career position for someone recently graduated or up to six years of experience in the product development process and delivering designs to production. This is an on-site position that will report to the Vice President of Engineering and be responsible for product design and development of water source fan coils and heat pumps. Depending on experience, projects can include new products, model extensions, warranty reductions, cost improvements, quality improvements, sound reductions, supplier qualifications, and packaging. Also depending on experience, the Product Development Engineer role can include:

· Manage projects from concept to production.

· Be responsible for agency submittals, file management, and audits for safety listings and performance certifications.

· Develop and manage product bills of materials.

· Design and develop refrigeration, air flow, and controls systems.

· Measure and mitigate sound and vibration.

· Work with suppliers to develop and/or specify system components.

· Provide direction to Product Designers for sheet metal and piping CAD models.

· Provide direction to the Engineering Lab for prototype builds and performance testing.

· Provide Engineering documentation including drawings, product specifications, and technical data to production, sales, and technical services.

· Provide Engineering support to production, sales, and technical services.

The following education and experiences are desired but not necessarily required:

· Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline or equivalent work experience.

· Knowledge and understanding of HVAC principles including refrigeration cycle, system controls, air flow, expansion control, heat exchangers, and psychrometric calculations.

· Experience in the product development process and delivering designs to production.

· Experience in air to air and/or water source heat pump product design.

· Experience in product performance testing in a psychrometric test chamber.

· Experience with refrigeration performance system simulation software.
