Purpose of Position
The Shooting Center Lead supports the daily operations of the Shooting Center by providing on-shift leadership, customer service, and safety oversight. This role assists the Shooting Center Manager by serving as a point of contact for staff and customers during assigned shifts, ensuring safe range operations, policy compliance, and an excellent customer experience.
This is a working lead position, responsible for leading by example while performing regular shooting center duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operational & Floor Leadership
- Serve as the acting on-duty lead during assigned shifts in the absence of the Shooting Center Manager
- Support opening and closing procedures as delegated
- Monitor daily shooting range activity to ensure safe, efficient, and customer-focused operations
- Assist with lane management, rentals, and range flow to maximize utilization and customer experience
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all shooting range safety rules and company policies consistently
- Assist with ensuring compliance with all ATF, federal, state, and company regulations
- Monitor range conditions, equipment, and customer behavior to proactively address safety concerns
- Report incidents, accidents, or compliance concerns promptly to the Manager
Customer Experience
- Provide knowledgeable, professional, and friendly service to all shooting center customers
- Assist with memberships, rentals, training sessions, and events
- Address routine customer questions or concerns and escalate issues as appropriate
- Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and safety-focused environment
Team Support
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to Shooting Center team members
- Assist with training new hires on range procedures, safety practices, and customer service expectations
- Support task delegation and coverage during peak times
- Model professionalism, accountability, and adherence to company standards
Facility & Merchandise Support
- Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and organized shooting range and retail areas
- Monitor inventory levels and notify Manager of supply or equipment needs
- Ensure merchandise, rentals, and range areas meet company presentation standards
Administrative Support
- Assist with completing required checklists, logs, and daily operational paperwork
- Communicate shift updates, issues, and handoffs clearly to the Manager
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Shooting Center operations
Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of firearms safety and shooting range operations
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive in fast-paced or safety-sensitive situations
- Basic math, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while supporting team priorities
- Comfortable providing peer guidance without formal disciplinary authority
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior experience in a shooting range, firearms retail, outdoor sports, or related environment preferred
- Previous experience as a trainer, key holder, or team lead preferred but not required
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must be eligible to work around firearms in accordance with federal and state regulations
- Required certifications or training must be obtained as directed by the Company
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position does not have direct disciplinary authority
- Provides day-to-day guidance, training support, and task direction during shifts
Work Environment / Physical Demands
- Moderately active environment requiring standing, walking, and moving throughout shifts
- Regular exposure to moderate to high noise levels associated with shooting range operations
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Requires visual acuity, manual dexterity, and the ability to react quickly to safety situations
