Flavorist – R&D | Food, Beverage, Tobacco, & Fragrance Applications
Join a dynamic and innovative team as a Flavorist, where your expertise in flavor creation, sensory science, and formulation will directly support Research & Development, Quality Control, and Production. This role is ideal for a creative yet analytical professional who excels in developing commercially viable flavors, conducting organoleptic evaluations, and contributing across a fast-paced product development environment.
As a key contributor, you’ll develop diverse flavor profiles, replicate customer targets, support sensory programs, and ensure the highest standards in raw materials and finished-product quality. Key Responsibilities
- Create a wide range of innovative and commercially viable flavor profiles.
- Apply strong knowledge of FEMA GRAS materials in daily formulation work.
- Provide organoleptic assessments for raw materials, prototypes, and finished flavors.
- Replicate existing or target flavor profiles to support customer-driven projects.
- Collaborate with Flavor Technicians and help mentor the team in flavor development best practices.
- Deliver analytical and sensory support to the Quality Control team.
- Participate in sensory and smoking panels to validate product performance.
- Maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment.
- Rotate raw materials and finished flavors approaching end-of-shelf-life to ensure quality.
- Support commercialization efforts to ensure flavors transition smoothly from development to production.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, or related scientific field.
- 4–7 years of experience creating flavors in a lab setting; experience in tobacco, food, beverage, or perfume industries preferred.
- Strong familiarity with FEMA GRAS materials and flavor formulation principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard lab tools.
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines within a results-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Regular onsite presence required; some travel may be necessary.
Pay: $90,000-$130,000 depending on experience w/ bonus potential
