Primary Function Ensuring that on-air programs as well as services provided by engineering facilities are broadcasted on time to the highest possible level of quality and to provide technical (L1) support to critical broadcast systems in order to keep client programs on air. The Broadcast Engineer is also responsible for maintaining, installing, upgrading, monitoring, and repairing broadcast, engineering systems and facilities. Duties & Responsibilities Ensure that the station is on-air without interruption. Installs, maintains, modifies, operates and repairs broadcast equipment and systems, including the latest multimedia technology. Working alongside others in the technical department, broadcast engineers use a wide range of equipment and systems to ensure that programs are transmitted across different transmission centers at the correct times and to the highest standards of technical quality. Build and execute periodic maintenance plan, down time requirement for all Broadcast environments. Interpret and implement instructions and requests from producers, directors, and other end users. Create and update system diagrams according to system expansion and modification. Handles materials requisitions and projects requirements and study bidder proposal. Provide technical support for all broadcast areas including: Digital server recording and play out technologies Broadcast automation Digital archive systems Operating systems (MS windows, MAC OS, Linux. etc.) ON AIR graphics and creative systems Newsroom systems Nonlinear editing system Perform activities in accordance with maintenance programs, equipment replacement programs, broadcast projects, etc. Perform preventive maintenance along with senior Engineers. Respond to broadcast system enduser and stakeholder complaints and resolve them in a timely and efficient manner. Review daily report for equipment failure observations and perform repairs and workarounds as deemed necessary to maintain operations. Share knowledge to stakeholders and endusers on broadcast systems used in operations, and respond to any queries in a timely manner. Support in installation and testing of repaired and newly installed equipment. Skills & Qualifications TV equipment operation and installation skills. Organization skills. Knowledge in conventional and modern broadcast technologies (automation systems, file based storage, Playout technologies and OnAir Graphics). Knowledge in broadcast infrastructure and understanding for Broadcast system cabling installation requirements. Knowledge in Television systems and theory, analog and digital communications and digital television transmission. Knowledge in Video compression including MPEG2/MPEG4 and SD/HD /3G/4K. Knowledge in production and postproduction including studio cameras, ENG cameras, linear and nonlinear. Editing, audio/vision mixer. Knowledge in emerging technologies within the broadcast industry. Knowledge in complex technical drawings and reports. Theoretical knowledge in UPS system, ATS panels, Generators and all types of power distribution. Knowledge in basic measurement and test instruments for Audio and Video signals. Able to read and interpret schematic drawings, flow diagrams, and technical manuals. Able to multitask. Able to work under pressure. Able to meet deadlines. Able to lead a team of engineers and technicians. Able to analyze and solve technical problems. Able to read and interpret schematic drawings, flow diagrams, and technical manuals. Able to work in rotational shift 24/7/365. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree. Minimum 4 years of professional experience in broadcast engineering and relevant broadcast operations and maintenance in a live environment.
