Job Description Job Description Title: Mechanical / Opto-Mechanical Systems Engineer Hiring Organization: Connexion Systems & Engineering Compensation, Benefits, and Employment Type * Duration: 3-Year Contract * Pay rate: $70-$90 per hour (W2 only) * Job Location: Bedford, MA * Job#: bh18952 * Clearance Requirement: Active U.S. Top Secret clearance required at start of employment (must be verifiable in DISS prior to submission) Description: A multidisciplinary engineering organization is seeking a Mechanical / Opto-Mechanical Systems Engineer to support the design, integration, and testing of advanced prototype systems for high-performance technology applications. Work spans complex mechanical, opto-mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems used in ground, maritime, airborne, and spaceborne platforms. Example technology areas include laser communications, high-energy laser systems, optical sensors, biological agent detection systems, and large radar antenna structures. The engineering group specializes in precision engineering, mechanisms, opto-mechanics, electronics packaging, large structures, lightweight and composite structures, and additive manufacturing. The team also serves as the central hub for 3D CAD design and engineering data management, supporting programs from conceptual design through system integration and field testing. Key Responsibilities * Support mechanical design, integration, fabrication, and testing of complex hardware systems from concept through field performance evaluation * Contribute to development of mechanical, opto-mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems for advanced applications * Work across disciplines including structures, mechanisms, thermal systems, optics, and electronics integration * Collaborate closely within small, highly technical multidisciplinary teams * Participate in system-level design reviews, integration activities, and test campaigns * Communicate technical results and program status to internal and external stakeholders * Support occasional travel to meetings, test sites, and field locations as required Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering (required) * Master's degree is a plus and may offset experience requirements * Experience: * * Master's + 3 years of relevant experience, OR * Bachelor's + 7 years of relevant experience * Experience in mechanical design, assembly, and environmental testing of high-reliability systems (electronic, electro-optic, mechanisms, or opto-mechanical) * Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD software * Experience supporting DoD or aerospace applications * Strong written and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications * Experience with opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical systems for aircraft and/or spacecraft strongly preferred * Prior defense, military, or aerospace industry experience highly preferred * Strong background in precision engineering and complex hardware integration * Demonstrated ability to work independently and in fast-paced technical teams * Strong problem-solving skills and hands-on engineering experience Additional Information * Fully onsite role (no remote or hybrid option) * 3-year contract engagement * Candidates must be proactive, self-directed, and comfortable in a highly technical, mission-driven environment * Interview process: * * Initial phone or video screening * Technical panel interview (onsite for local candidates; virtual available for relocation candidates) You can review our other job postings at https://jobs.csetalent.com/ Connexion's mission is to provide "best in class" services to job seekers.
