Culinary Expert and Managing Advisor

Serves as a highly qualified culinary expert and a managing advisor for the Department of the Air Force Executive Dining Facility (DAFEDF), providing expert guidance on top culinary operations, menu engineering, and enterprise level food service management. Directs the daily business operations of the organization. Plans, organizes and directs the culinary activities, training, and enhancements of the DAFEDF, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Represents the organization and DAF with a variety of functional area organizations. Executes a variety of special projects and provides data driven recommendations that strengthen organizational performance and enhance the prestige of the Department of the Air Force.

  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a government travel card and government purchase card.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Prochef II, Chef de Cuisine or equivalent culinary certification and/or experience is highly desired.
  • Completion of the Air Force Club Management Course is highly desired.
  • Extensive experience serving executive food and service to DoD senior leadership and distinguished guests from throughout the world is highly desired.
  • Leave accrual may be authorized upon request.
  • Superior Qualifications may be considered if there is demonstratable proof provided on your resume.
  • This is centrally managed position

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: (1) Works with Michellin quality restaurant management and culinary techniques, along with food service, catering operations, and executive level dining functions. (2) Works with restaurant, food and beverage, management in environments requiring strict adherence to protocol and frequent engagement with senior military leaders, high ranking civilian officials, and foreign dignitaries; and (3) Works with domestic and international culinary preparation methods, including advanced cooking techniques, premium ingredient utilization, formal presentation standards, and fine dining tabletop service. This job does not have an education qualification requirement or applicable education substitution for experience. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
