Accounting Manager - Non-Profit Organization
A mission‑driven nonprofit organization in Downtown Los Angeles is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to join its finance team during a period of significant growth. This role works closely with the Director of Finance and is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations while strengthening systems and processes to support long‑term organizational expansion.
This is a hands‑on leadership role ideal for someone with strong nonprofit accounting experience who enjoys mentoring staff, improving processes, and ensuring accuracy and compliance across the full accounting cycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting in a nonprofit, grant‑funded environment
- Oversee the general ledger, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and compliance with internal controls
- Supervise, train, and develop accounting staff supporting Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger functions
- Support external, government, and funder audits, including preparation of audit schedules, documentation, and compliance reporting
- Drive accounting process improvements across AP, AR, and reporting to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within NetSuite
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervision of accounting staff
- Strong experience leading month‑end and year‑end close, financial reporting, and general ledger activities
- Solid knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and audit support (including government and funder audits)
- Experience in nonprofit and grant‑funded accounting environments, including allocation methodologies and revenue recognition
- Hands‑on experience using NetSuite ERP for general ledger management, reporting, and month‑end close
- Proven experience overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger functions
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
