Tooling Engineer
This role is closely integrated with the production floor and is essential for enhancing press performance, improving tooling reliability, and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
The facility operates a wide range of stamping presses (165 to 1,600 tons), offering exposure to complex tooling systems and varied production environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Diagnose and resolve press and tooling issues in real time to reduce downtime
• Assist tool room operations, including die repair, preventive maintenance, and performance improvement
• Maintain and update tooling documentation and drawings (CAD required; 3D modeling preferred)
• Drive initiatives focused on reducing setup time, increasing uptime, improving quality, and boosting operational efficiency
• Work on the production floor to assess processes, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements
• Collaborate across teams, including tool room staff, operations, engineering, sales, and plant leadership
• Manage and coordinate outsourced tooling projects when necessary
• Train and mentor junior team members and technicians
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience in metal stamping and tooling environments
• Strong skills in troubleshooting and root cause analysis
• Proficiency in CAD (3D modeling experience highly preferred)
• Hands-on, team-focused mindset with strong communication abilities
• Willingness to travel as required
Preferred Experience
• Background in die design and/or tool room operations
• Experience with servo press technology
