As a Quality & Food Safety Technician you will help keep our products safe and top-quality. You’ll support lab testing, material approvals, environmental monitoring, and audits—all while contributing to continuous improvement and making a real impact every day in the pet food industry.

Summary: The Food Safety and Quality Technician will provide quality support and coordination of quality efforts at the manufacturing site by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Support quality lab functions, such as compositing, hanging Hold Tags, gather sample requests, release of raw materials, entering and testing samples.
Support the environmental monitoring program by performing swabbing activities, collecting samples, and ensuring proper testing is performed.
Support the AFB Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure all practices are executed in accordance with these standards
Conduct verifications of the food safety and quality systems, hazard analysis and sanitation processes, prerequisite programs, manufacturing processes, and finished product.
Develop, maintain, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions as required.
Support operations by training and developing employees on food safety & quality related programs.
Participate or investigate in root cause investigations and CAPA’s for food safety and quality issues.
Participate in problem solving initiatives in accordance with EBOS principles.
Assist in preparing for third party audits, customer audits and inspections.
Actively support and participate in cross-functional teams as assigned.
Monitoring and assessing production processes to identify potential hazards and quality issues, including conducting observations audits on key operator functions.
Conduct cleaning verification inspection, APT testing, and trending results.
Utilize the Micro NIR to sample incoming raw materials and contribute to a global database for raw material consistency verification.
Aid in the Spectrophotometer Color project to establish a global database for product color conformity.

Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or GED.
2+ years of experience in Human and/or Pet Food Manufacturing
Desired:
Bachelor’s degree in the field of science (Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology) or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Strong working knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and Food Safety
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal relations skills.
Proficient computer skills in Windows and Internet applications, as well as MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Ability to maintain accurate records relating to jobs as they are planned, performed, and completed. Skill to use electronic means for recording data.
Expert organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to follow instructions and respond to management direction.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical materials.
