Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Department of Writing is looking for interested students to work in the Writing Center.
That means the course ends in October and if successfully completed, you will begin tutoring in the Writing Center. You can still register for the course if you aren't hired. Then if you try again next year and get hired, you can begin tutoring immediately in Fall 2025.
PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR APPLICATION IF YOU CANNOT REGISTER FOR WRTG 218, FALL 2025, FOR ANY REASON. Reasons may include but are not limited to conflicts with other classes, overload credits that are not permitted, or work conflicts. Please consult with your advisor to ensure you can take the course. It is recommended that you register for WRTG 218 even if you haven't completed the interview process; the course can be dropped later if desired.
Pay Rate: $16.15/hr

Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Department of Writing is looking for interested students to work in the Writing Center.
- Tutoring a wide range of students, including international and graduate students, from across the college, approximately 10 hours a week, to help them gain independence as writers
- Maintaining the Writing Center as a welcoming and inclusive space for all
- Hosting workshops and visits from classes to promote use of the Writing Center Develop instructional content
- Solid academic standing and strong writing abilities, particularly in expository genres
- Successful completion of either Academic Writing I; Inquiry, Research, and Writing Across the Disciplines; Introduction to the Essay; or Ithaca Seminar in Writing
- Completion of additional writing courses beyond the 100-level, especially Argument, strongly preferred
- Sophomore standing at time of first week working
- Commitment to helping others become more effective writers
- Excellent communication skills
- Personal qualities conducive to one-on-one conferences, such as a friendly, approachable manner; patience; good listening abilities; and a sense of maturity and responsibility
- Rising sophomores to seniors; we cannot hire current seniors or graduates.
- Experience/interest in writing copy or instructional material, web design, online content development, PR, and/or graphic design is highly desirable

- Two expository writing samples:
- One should be a traditional academic research paper, minimum of 4 pages long
- One from a genre of your choice, page length can vary
