JOB SUMMARY:
Assist students as needed to board and exit the bus, safely-including the proper utilization of seat belts, booster seats, 5-point harnesses, and/or handicap lift.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Not less than a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma;
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Transportation
FLSA STATUS: NONEXEMPT
Nonexempt: Employees primarily performing work that is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Overtime pay is required.

SUPERVISES: Children while loading or unloading the bus and while riding the bus.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Provide appropriate care for the safekeeping of students while the students are being transported to and from school or while on a special needs bus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Secure appropriately all required equipment, such as seat belts, harnesses, booster seats, wheelchairs, walkers, braces, etc., on the bus for safe transportation.
  2. Maintain order on the bus
  3. Assist the driver with non-driving duties when possible.
  4. Deal with children in a firm, fair, and friendly manner. Any excessive misbehavior shall be reported to the bus driver, Director of Transportation, and/or Principal.
  5. Keep information confidential concerning school business.
  6. Act in a professional manner at all times.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation and/or Director of Schools.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 days
SALARY: Based on Hourly Wage - Bus Monitor/Special Education Bus Monitor; General Purpose School Budget line: 72710-189.
EVALUATION: Annual Evaluation by Supervisor of Transportation
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This job may require lifting or carrying objects that exceed fifty (50) pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows: pushing and/or pulling, stooping and/or kneeling, reaching and/or handling, talking, hearing, seeing, and climbing.
