NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Agricultural Research Service through the Experienced Worker Program (EWP).

The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies? areas of research. Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 year(s) of experience in agronomy, breeding, biology, genetics, and life science related work and analyses. OR BA/BS Degree in Agronomy, Physical Sciences

• Seed quality analysis and statistical analysis is a plus.
• Experience required with Windows, Apple, MS Word, MS Excel
• Statistical Software Packages

Duties:

Supports one or more phases of the research process as designated by the Position Monitor by performing a variety of technical duties accurately in the research environment. Performing technical duties are at the field- and laboratory-based level.The enrollee shall not sign federal documents, authorize the use of federal funds, nor initiate or conduct federally funded research projects. The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies? areas of research. The enrollee shall not make decisions on federally based research on behalf of Government policy makers, and the enrollee shall not supervise any Government employees.

• Collect, prepare, and analyze seed and plant samples. 60%
• Keeps the lab clean and tidy (e.g. wash glassware). 15%
• Tabulates, statistically analyzes, and summarizes data using software packages. 15%
• Prepare chemical reagents, as needed. 5%
• Keeps detailed records of experimental data. 5%

Other:

• Training will provide as necessary.
• Health and Safety Considerations: Safety training will be provided for chemical and overall safety training for laboratory and field settings.
• Physical requirements: Able to lift 30 lbs. and stand for long periods. Field work includes the ability to collect samples in field experiments before and/or during the crop growing season.
