Addison Central School District Middle Level Literacy Instructional Specialist (Grades 6-8) 2026-2027 School Year Addison Central School District is seeking to hire a full-time Literacy Instructional Specialist to join two other instructional specialists on our middle school team. The Literacy Instructional Specialist is responsible for supporting and enhancing high-quality, grade-level literacy instruction across classrooms in alignment with ACSD's curricular commitments and the Common Core State Standards. This role prioritizes ensuring that all students engage with complex, grade-level texts, develop strong analytical reading skills, and produce clear, evidence-based writing. The Instructional Specialist provides leadership, partnership, and guidance through co-planning, co-teaching, and coaching cycles. This position focuses on strengthening Tier 1 core instruction, elevating high-leverage literacy practices, and ensuring access and high quality learning for all learners through the implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). In addition to providing direct classroom support, the Instructional Specialist collaborates with teachers, administrators, curriculum coordinators, and other staff to promote academic excellence, improve student outcomes, and foster a culture of reflection, inquiry, and continuous learning. Key Responsibilities: Instruction & Coaching Co-plan and support the design of standards-aligned, grade-level literacy instruction grounded in complex literary and informational texts Support the integration of reading, writing, speaking, and listening within daily instruction Ensure learning experiences emphasize: Close reading and text analysis Use of textual evidence to support thinking Academic discourse and student-centered discussion Curriculum, Assessment & Alignment Support implementation of Common Core-aligned reading and writing instruction Ensure alignment between classroom assessments, state standards, and district assessment criteria Facilitate the use of common rubrics Lead calibration of student work to build shared expectations for grade-level proficiency Use student data and work to inform instructional decisions Professional Learning & Collaboration Facilitate professional learning on: Grade-level text instruction Text analysis and evidence-based writing UDL and inclusive practices Instructional and assessment alignment Support collaborative team structures (PLCs, vertical teams)
