Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our team. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in handling litigation matters and will play a pivotal role in supporting our attorneys throughout the litigation and trial process. This is a position requiring strong organizational, research, and communication skills, along with a proactive mindset and a deep understanding of civil litigation procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Case Management: Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation, including prelitigation preparation, discovery, depositions, trial preparation, and post-trial matters.
- Document Management: Manage, organize, and review case files, exhibits, and discovery materials; ensure accurate record-keeping and adherence to case deadlines. Organize and analyze document productions, analyze for compliance, draft meet and confer letters for attorney review, and identify and tag documents for exhibit use.
- Research & Analysis: Conduct legal research and analysis; prepare summaries of case law, statutes, and regulations relevant to ongoing litigation. Prepare medical record summaries, analyze, and create witness lists and documents associated with witnesses.
- Discovery & E-Discovery: Draft and respond to discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production of documents, and requests for admissions. Interview witnesses, meet with witnesses. Oversee e-discovery processes and document production.
- Deposition & Trial Support: Coordinate and prepare exhibits for depositions and trial, assist in trial preparation, including exhibits, trial binders, witness scheduling, and managing trial logistics. Occasional travel to/from the Court to assist with trial team and trial logistics.
- Client Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates, gather information, and ensure the progress of cases is aligned with client goals.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior paralegals and administrative staff; share best practices and expertise to enhance the overall effectiveness of the litigation team.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably in civil litigation with a California-based practice area.
Education: A four-year college degree is preferred.
Skills Required:
- Strong knowledge of federal and California state court rules, procedures, and filing requirements.
- Expertise in drafting and responding to discovery, motions, legal documents, and correspondence. (Preference given to California-based litigation experience)
- Expertise with formatting legal documents, preparing Table of Contents and Table of Authorities, and proper use of case and statutory citations.
- Proficient in legal case management software.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team. A proactive, solution-oriented mindset is essential.
- Experience with trial preparation and support, including drafting trial exhibits, jury instructions, witness lists, witness preparation, and coordinating logistics.
- Knowledge of e-discovery tools and processes.
- Familiarity with various legal billing and timekeeping systems.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and manage multiple deadlines.

Additional Requirements:
- Must have reliable transportation, valid CA driver's license, and a clean, insurable driving record.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 25 pounds, as well as perform typical office related physical tasks as needed.
