Position Summary
Artist Boat seeks an enthusiastic Habitat and Stewardship Technician (HST) Intern to join our team to learn to implement and deliver improved habitat quality for wildlife and plant communities. The HST Interns assist with the Integrated Pest Management Plan through removal of invasive species on the Coastal Heritage Preserve using targeted mechanical methods, application of herbicides and other repetitive land management tasks. Other duties include upkeep of the greenhouse and native plant nursery, propagation of native prairie plants and assisting with maintenance and replacement of fencing. This is a field position that requires accurate data collection and follows a prairie and wetland restoration plan. The HST Intern assists with community engagement through preserve open work days, Habitat Restoration Adventures, Sea Citizen Trainings and Public Bucket Brigade beach tours. These community engagement activities help to inform and transform the public through stewardship of the land.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; Must pass background check and be fingerprinted annually; Valid driver's license with a good driving record; Reliable transportation Lifting heavy objects (up to 60 lbs)
Preferred Qualifications
Work in variable weather and temperature conditions, remote locations, difficult and hazardous terrain and physically demanding circumstances; Ability to maintain OSHA safety standards at all times for each task and tool; A safety conscious attitude
Hours
40 per week
Living Accommodations
No housing provided; Artist Boat will assist with finding housing within the community as requested or needed.
Compensation
Living Allowance: $600/week; Relocation Allowance (paid once): $1,100; Housing Allowance: $1000/month for a total of 3 months
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
