Purpose
The Quality Control Technician performs duties such as: Inspecting materials and products, such as sheet and foil for conformance to specifications and quality standards. Must meet specific performance standards to complete assigned tasks.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform tests on incoming raw materials, material in-process, rolling oils and additives, plant process water and finished product
- Maintain accurate records.
- Verifies specified dimensions of product or material.
- Recommend disposition of products inspection for quality assurance.
- Monitor fabrication processes for adherence to prescribed practices and product quality.
- Operates any diagnostic equipment needed to perform job.
- Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a current and increased knowledge of customer requirements, production process and quality guidelines.
- Perform routine maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
- Perform assigned Quality Control Inspector duties according to Technical Department practices. Due to the wide range of responsibilities for this position, the department supervisor or Superintendent will make judgment decisions based on their knowledge of tasks needing to be performed.
- Ensure daily tasks are completed in time allotted.
- Ensure daily tasks are performed in compliance with established practices.
- Ensure safety rules are followed.
- Follow established guidelines in relation to attendance, breaks, on call responsibilities, and company policy.
- Report machinery, safety or personnel issues to the supervisor.
- Determine nature of machinery malfunction or breakdown. Advise supervisor to arrange repairs as necessary.
- Recognize safety hazards or the unsafe activities of other personnel. Report such to offending associate and supervisor for review during scheduled safety talk.
- Recognize misuse, theft or damage of company property and report such to supervisor.
- Support and participate in open communication between supervision and fellow employees.
- Secure necessary supplies to perform assigned duties.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or general degree (GED); or three to six months related and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and aluminum production experience.
- Basic computer skills and use of measuring equipment such as micrometer and tape.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Self-starter, detail oriented and able to work well without continual supervision.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Personal protective equipment includes but is not limited to safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, and hearing protection as required.
