Society Insurance is seeking a seasoned Commercial Underwriting Manager with prior middle market experience to help drive growth across a multi-state territory. In this role, you'll lead and develop an underwriting team and expand a profitable, well-balanced book of business. Your portfolio may include (but is not limited to) bars, restaurants, breweries/wineries, food manufacturing, contractors, habitational, grocery, auto repair, lessor's risk, retail, wholesale, and more. You'll bring together risk expertise, financial analysis, and a solutions-first mindset to craft tailored coverage strategies - helping protect our insureds and strengthen long-term partnerships.

About the Role

Manages territory proactively by identifying and problem-solving underwriting performance indicators. Partners with Underwriting leadership in building strategies to achieve business plan objectives. Develops and executes tactical plans to support these strategies. Participates and contributes new ideas in staff, peer, and unit meetings. Works with the team to continuously improve underwriting results and processes efficiencies. Supervises and develops a staff of underwriters to include coaching, mentoring, and training. Manages and improves relationships with independent agencies and Regional Sales Managers in the territory. Assists underwriting leadership in building strategies to achieve business plan objectives. Develops and executes tactical plans to support these strategies. Completes underwriting operations by managing underwriting process and workload; evaluating work results; enforcing underwriting guidelines and productivity standards. Accepts, modify, or declines underwriter referrals by applying company underwriting standards and appropriate risk evaluation. Participates on project teams and planning projects. Provides high-quality service by enforcing underwriting and customer service standards; resolving complex quality and service issues; and recommending system and procedure improvements. Supports the underwriting team in developing and executing agency business plans; and communicates with and visits key agencies in the assigned territory to strengthen and enhance agency partnerships.

What it Will Take

Bachelor's degree in business or a related field. 7+ years of demonstrated competency in a commercial, multi-line underwriting role including strong knowledge of coverages, laws, and concepts. Prior management experience within P&C industry. Recognized higher-level industry designations and ongoing industry education (examples: CPCU, AIC, CIC, ARM, AU). Familiarity with commercial-lines rating and pricing techniques, rules, and methodology. Familiarity with commercial package and BOP products. High level of competency with information technology, including AI, policy administration systems, and workflow management highly desirable.
