Job Description - This posting will remain open to generate a pool of qualified student applicants for available positions during the semester. Researching/gathering information and writing news and other types of stories (including multimedia content) for the Ram Page; performing other duties commensurate with the position as assigned. Subject to relevant job expectations (attached) that are complementary to the essential job duties listed below.
Essential job duties include:
- Gathering information for the stories through research and interviewing.
- Researching, finding, verifying and checking facts and statements for truthfulness and accuracy.
- Drafting, editing and revising (based on editor's and copy editor's feedback) stories. Applying established journalistic standards and AP style in the process.
- Writing columns, features, editorial stories and assisting with/producing other types of content commensurate with the employee's position, skillset and abilities, as assigned.
- Building networks of sources, colleagues and campus community members.
- Writing columns and feature stories as assigned.
- Performing basic operations in the Ram Page website backdoor.
- Having basic skillset to function as a photographer in case Ram Page photographer is not available.
- Being able to meet tight deadlines and accommodate short notices if necessary.
- Assisting Ram Page editor in various tasks commensurate with the employee's position, skillset and abilities.
- Attending and participating in all Ram Page staff meetings (with the exception for extenuating circumstances established on case-by-case basis).
- Being available for at least some department-initiated events that involve Ram Page (e.g., welcoming visitors from high schools touring the campus and introducing them to the Ram Page, etc.).
Required Qualifications - Must be a currently enrolled student who is registered for classes. Appropriate writing skills (grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, concise and clear writing style).
Preferred Qualifications - Knowledge of newswriting and AP style.
Physical Demands - Must be able to carry up to 5 lbs. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors and stand for 2-4 hrs. at a time if necessary.
Salary - $9.00/hr
