Mechanical Project Engineer
A leading North American aluminum recycling and specification alloy producer is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join its growing engineering team. With multiple manufacturing sites across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, the organization transforms aluminum scrap and by-products into high-quality reusable metal supporting a wide range of industries and sustainability initiatives.
This role is based in Coldwater, Michigan, with travel of up to 30% to regional facilities including Chicago Heights and Mississauga, Ontario.
What You’ll Do
As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering capital projects and engineering improvements that enhance productivity, reliability, and operational performance across plant locations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and supporting capital projects from concept through implementation
- Managing project scope, schedule, budget, and execution with internal teams and contractors
- Providing mechanical engineering solutions to improve plant operations and equipment performance
- Developing and modifying technical drawings and engineering designs
- Collaborating closely with plant operations teams to ensure successful project delivery
- Supporting multiple concurrent projects across different sites
- Driving continuous improvement and technology upgrades within manufacturing processes

- 60% Project Engineering / Project Management
- 20% Plant Support
- 20% Mechanical Systems Design
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (required)
- Minimum 2+ years of industrial experience in engineering design, project planning, and implementation (beyond academic projects)
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in manufacturing or heavy industrial environments preferred
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with practical, hands-on judgment
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Inventor strongly preferred
- Knowledge of structural design and relevant standards (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, etc.)
- Experience with aluminum processing or metals manufacturing is a plus
- Six Sigma and/or PMP certification is a plus

- This role requires regular collaboration with plant operations teams and contractors
- Up to 30% travel across regional facilities
