A highly respected and nationally recognized professional services organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead its internal accounting operations in Washington, DC. The organization is seeking a polished and hands-on accounting leader who can serve as the primary internal accounting professional while partnering closely with executive leadership. This role offers broad ownership across accounting operations, financial reporting, banking relationships, payroll oversight, budgeting, compliance, and operational process improvement.

What You’ll Do:
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, reconciliations, cash management, payroll, and expense administration
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes and prepare financial reporting packages for leadership
• Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and lines of credit
• Oversee outsourced billing, AR, and collections functions to ensure accuracy and operational efficiency
• Administer payroll and retirement plan processes while ensuring compliance and accuracy
• Manage trust/IOLTA accounts and related compliance requirements
• Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and external advisor relationships
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis initiatives
• Strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and reporting processes
• Partner directly with executive leadership on financial analysis and operational decision-making
What We’re Looking For:
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience within a law firm or professional services environment
• Strong understanding of cash-based accounting principles
• Experience managing accounting operations in a complex services-based organization
• Knowledge of trust/IOLTA accounting requirements strongly preferred
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with partners and executive leadership
• Experience overseeing payroll, benefits, and vendor relationships
• Advanced Excel skills and strong overall systems aptitude
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• Experience with SurePoint or similar legal accounting systems is a plus
