Location: Phoenix – Hybrid
Duration: 06/01/2026 – 12/31/2026
Position Type: Contract / Staff Augmentation
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM
Position Summary
Seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations, accounting processes, reconciliations, reporting, payroll review, budgeting activities, and management of accounting staff. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Arizona state financial systems, federal financial reporting, grants/funding management, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and approve Accountant IV transactions in AZ360
- Review ACH transactions and ensure timely processing
- Perform monthly reconciliations of AZ360 funds and cash flow worksheets
- Review General Fund Status reports (BQ90LV1)
- Manage payroll reconciliation and reporting activities
- Review and approve LGTS reconciliations
- Manage travel claims and investment splits
- Assist with budget preparation and funding code assignments
- Maintain and manage Chart of Accounts structure and naming
- Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff and new employees
- Assist with accounting procedures for Long-Term Water Augmentation projects
- Prepare MBE/WBE reports and assist with audits
- Support federal financial reporting (FFRs)
- Complete internal audits and corrective actions
- Prepare disbursement claims and fund adjustments in AZ360
- Track interest payments from the State Treasurer’s Office
- Support arbitration payment processing and PO management
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong management/team leadership experience
- Experience with:
- BQ38LV3 – Period Expense Reporting & Adjustments
- Federal Financial Reporting (FFRs)
- Grants and Federal Funding
- Hands-on experience with:
- AZ360 FIN & HRM (Mandatory)
- DotStaff (Mandatory)
- eCivis
- APP
- Experience supervising accounting operations and staff
- Strong reconciliation, budgeting, audit, and reporting experience
- State government accounting experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- Accounting certifications are a plus
- Equivalent experience of 15+ years in accounting may substitute for degree
- Experience with water infrastructure or water-related projects preferred
Additional Information
- Primarily remote/work-from-home role with occasional onsite requirements
- Mandatory onsite attendance at least two days per month for Board and Committee meetings
- More onsite presence may be required during year-end activities
- Candidates must be local to the Phoenix, AZ area
