Responsibilities
- Mechanical Design Execution: Develop and execute structural designs from concept through prototyping to production handoff.
- Vehicle Product Development: Create mechanical designs for RV motorized, towables, and marine products, including subsystems and load-bearing structures.
- Trade Studies: Evaluate design alternatives and material selections.
- Manufacturing Technology Selection: Identify and apply appropriate manufacturing processes.
- Failure Modes Analysis: Conduct FMEA on structural solutions.
- Engineering Analysis: Perform FEA for strength and factor of safety evaluations.
- Packaging Studies: Lead chassis layout and mounting studies.
- Supplier Management: Conduct make/buy studies, identify suppliers, and serve as primary contact through design and production readiness.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with subsystem owners to engineer mounting points.
- Documentation: Release design data for RFQ, prototype, and production phases.
- Testing Support: Provide input and support for system/vehicle-level testing.
- Project Management: Contribute to project management and systems engineering tasks.
Basic Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
- 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Proven track record of taking vehicle-related products from concept to production.
- Experience with body structures (unibody, body-on-frame) and advanced materials.
- Knowledge of DFMA principles.
- Strong 3D CAD and Product Lifecycle Management skills.
- Background in manufacturing industry and engineering teams.
- Familiarity with project management and systems engineering methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
- Experience with composite materials (thermoplastics, thermosets, prepregs, honeycomb cores, rPET cores, carbon/natural/hemp/flax fibers, composite sandwich panels, bonded joints).
- Knowledge of circular materials in structural design.
- Prior vehicle engineering experience (automotive, RVs, heavy-duty equipment, trucks, buses, trailers, vans, aircraft).
- Designs that enhance quality, safety, reliability, and maintainability.
