Accounting Technician

This is an at-will, non-partisan position. The Accounting Technician, under the direct supervision of the LRS Director, operates within predetermined guidelines issued by the LRS Board of Trustees.

Performs assignments and serves as the point of contact in the areas of accounting, purchasing, and budget support in accordance with standard accounting practices and the Statewide Integrated Governmental Management Applications (SIGMA). Prepares financial reports for analysis and adjusts accounting records as needed. Answers phone calls and respond to emails to assist with members of the LRS.

The accounting technician is responsible for a wide range of tasks designed to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the LRS' financial information.

  • Reconciles accounting data, prepares journal vouchers, and reclasses accounting entries in State of Michigan and internal accounting records.
  • Maintain and update financial records, including ledgers, journals, and account reconciliations
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reports to identify analytical trends and discrepancies
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, including invoices and payments
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office, including spreadsheets to organize, track, and report financial information
  • Provide professional phone and email based customer service
  • Works collaboratively with director to provide support as needed

High school diploma or equivalent

Associate's degree in accounting, finance, or similar field preferred

Four years or more of accounting/bookkeeping experience preferred

Experience with the State of Michigan financial system and Financial Management Guide preferred

Other combinations of education and experience evaluated on an individual basis
