About The League
The League of Women Voters of the Fredericksburg Area is a nonpartisan civic organization serving Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, and King George. The League works to promote informed and active participation in government through voter education, civic engagement, public programming, community partnerships, and issue education.
The League does not support or oppose political parties or candidates. All Board members must be willing to work within, and adhere to, the League’s nonpartisan policy, standards, and procedures.
About the OpportunitiesThe League of Women Voters of the Fredericksburg Area is seeking community-minded leaders to serve in several volunteer Board positions. These are unpaid roles, but each position serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors and helps guide the organization’s work, priorities, and community impact.
We are currently seeking candidates or applicants for the following roles:
The Director of Membership leads efforts to recruit, welcome, engage, and retain members. This role helps strengthen the League’s member experience and supports leadership development within the organization.
Responsibilities may include:
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys people, relationship-building, outreach, organization, and community engagement.
The Director of Communications oversees the League’s internal and external communications. This role helps shape how the League presents its work to members, partners, media, and the public.

Preferred background or skills:
This role is ideal for someone who can help make local civic engagement look clear, professional, and accessible to the public.
The Director of Program helps coordinate the League’s local program work, including issue study, civic education, consensus or concurrence processes, and program recommendations.
Responsibilities may include:
This role is ideal for someone interested in public policy, government, research, education, civic engagement, facilitation, or community learning.
The Director of Student and Youth Engagement helps connect the League’s civic education and voter engagement work with students, young people, schools, colleges, universities, and educational partners.
Responsibilities may include:
This role is ideal for someone with experience or interest in education, student affairs, youth programming, civic education, voter engagement, mentorship, or nonprofit/community work.
The Treasurer helps maintain the League’s financial records and supports responsible financial management. Advanced accounting experience is not required, but some background in accounting, bookkeeping, budgeting, finance, nonprofit administration, or a related field is preferred.

This role is ideal for someone who is organized, careful, and willing to help a local civic nonprofit stay financially responsible and transparent.
All candidates should be:
You do not need to be a political expert to serve. Strong candidates may come from many backgrounds, including communications, education, accounting, nonprofit work, public service, community organizing, student affairs, administration, design, journalism, civic engagement, or local volunteer leadership.
The most important qualifications are reliability, good judgment, commitment to nonpartisanship, and willingness to help strengthen civic life in the Fredericksburg region.
