Reports to: Head of Lower School& Head of Middle School

Salary Range: $40,000–$66,000 (based on placement on salary scale)

Tarbiyah Academy is seeking an energetic, mission-aligned, and inquiry-minded Physical Education Teacher to bring the International Baccalaureate Programme to life through movement, sport, and wellness within a holistic Islamic educational framework.

As a Physical Education Teacher, you are responsible for designing a physical education program that is engaging, developmentally appropriate, and spiritually grounded. You will teach physical education as both a discipline and a pathway to lifelong wellness, helping students develop physical literacy, sportsmanship, and a deep appreciation for the body as an amanah from Allah.

Pedagogy & Instructional Excellence

The PYP Physical Education Teacher is expected to:

  • Deliver high-quality, inquiry-based physical education instruction aligned with the IB Programme
  • Design a developmentally appropriate PE curriculum that builds fundamental motor skills, fitness, teamwork, and sport-specific competencies
  • Collaborate with other subject teachers to integrate movement and wellness meaningfully into transdisciplinary Units of Inquiry
  • Teach physical education as both a physical and conceptual discipline, encouraging students to think critically about health, movement, and wellbeing
  • Cultivate students' understanding of personal fitness, nutrition, and lifelong healthy habits
  • Integrate Islamic values, character education, and the concept of caring for the body as an amanah authentically into the program
  • Clearly articulate what is being taught, why it matters, and how learning will be assessed
  • Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and differentiate for diverse learners and abilities
  • Provide high-quality scaffolding and timely, actionable feedback
  • Engage students in reflection, goal-setting, and ownership of their physical growth
  • Collaboratively plan with homeroom teachers and specialists to ensure coherence and progression across grade levels

Gymnasium Culture & Student Development

  • Create a structured, joyful, and emotionally safe learning environment where students feel free to take healthy risks and try new skills
  • Establish and maintain clear routines and expectations for the safe, responsible use of equipment and shared spaces
  • Implement positive behavior systems aligned with school-wide expectations
  • Model and teach sportsmanship, fair play, and respect for teammates and opponents
  • Support students' social-emotional growth and character development through movement and team experiences
  • Foster belonging, dignity, and respect within the gymnasium community, ensuring every student feels valued regardless of athletic ability
  • Maintain organized, well-resourced, and safe learning spaces that support optimal learning

Family Partnership & Communication

  • Build strong relationships with families through proactive and transparent communication
  • Contribute to three-way conferences and student-led conferences
  • Provide clear and informative progress reports on students' physical and personal growth
  • Share student learning with families through demonstrations, field days, and school events
  • Partner with parents to support student growth physically, socially, and emotionally

Professional Collaboration & Growth

  • Actively participate in collaborative planning and professional learning communities
  • Engage in IB professional development and ongoing teacher growth, particularly in PYP physical education
  • Contribute to accreditation and authorization processes
  • Seek continuous improvement in instructional practice and technology integration
  • Offer at least one extracurricular activity per week
  • Support and contribute to school-wide events, field days, athletic programs, field trips, and co-curricular responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of athletic programming and healthy school culture

Salary Determination

Salary placement is determined by full-time teaching experience, state certification status, and highest degree earned (Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate). The range for this position is $40,000 - $66,000

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field from an accredited U.S. university
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Strong command of English, orally and in writing
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)

Preferred:

  • State certification in Physical Education
  • Master's degree in Physical Education or a related field
  • Experience teaching in the IB Primary Years Programme
  • Experience in independent or Islamic schools
  • Coaching experience or background in organized athletics
