Staff Accountant – Payment Operations

Washington, DC | Hybrid (4 days onsite)

A leading global investment and asset management firm is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its growing Payment Operations team. This role supports high-volume accounts payable and cash management activities across the Americas region and is ideal for accounting or finance professionals looking to grow within a fast-paced corporate environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Process invoices, employee expense reimbursements, and vendor payments (ACH, wire, and check)
• Monitor and manage payment workflows to ensure timely and accurate processing
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies
• Respond to vendor and internal stakeholder inquiries related to payment operations
• Support accounts payable operations, including invoice uploads and workflow troubleshooting
• Audit employee expense reports for policy compliance
• Assist with monthly reporting activities, including sales/use tax and 1099 support
• Track and resolve payment processing issues while maintaining strong attention to detail
• Collaborate cross-functionally with accounting, finance, and operational teams to improve processes and maintain compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• 1–5 years of experience in accounting, accounts payable, payment operations, or banking environments
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and accounts payable processes
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Strong attention to detail and proactive problem-solving mindset
• Experience with ERP or expense management systems such as PeopleSoft, SAP Ariba, or Concur is a plus
