Accounting Manager

Well established and growing organization targeting an experienced Accounting Manager to join the team!

Location: Central OC (Hybrid: Monday–Thursday onsite, Friday remote)

Salary: $135,000 – $165,000 + 10–12% bonus

Advanced to Controller in two years!

Position Overview

The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical accounting expertise, construction industry experience, and an interest in driving process improvements through technology and emerging tools.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Close, Reporting & Analysis

• Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
• Oversee journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation
• Perform variance analysis (budget vs. actual) and identify key financial trends and drivers
• Assist in improving close timelines and reporting efficiencies
• Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including labor efficiency and margin metrics
• Maintain and update Work-in-Process (WIP) schedules in collaboration with operations
• Partner with project teams to review job performance, costs, billings, and forecasts
• Ensure accurate revenue recognition using the percentage-of-completion method

Operational Accounting Oversight

• Support oversight of Accounts Receivable, including billing, collections, and aging analysis
• Assist with Accounts Payable processes, including vendor payments, compliance, and workflow improvements
• Provide oversight support for payroll processing, reconciliations, and compliance requirements
• Collaborate with the Controller to strengthen processes across all transactional accounting functions

Financial Planning & Business Support

• Assist with forecasting and budgeting processes by analyzing actuals and key assumptions
• Provide cost and margin analysis across projects, departments, and service lines
• Analyze labor, subcontractor, and overhead costs to support operational decision-making
• Leverage WIP data to deliver insights into revenue forecasting and project performance
• Partner with cross-functional teams to enhance financial visibility and support business decisions
• Contribute to financial planning efforts as the company continues to grow

Systems, Automation & Process Improvement

• Support implementation and optimization of ERP systems, including Vista/Viewpoint modules
• Identify opportunities to enhance automation and improve data accuracy within financial systems
• Assist in evaluating and implementing AI-driven tools and process automation solutions
• Leverage data analytics to improve reporting and decision-making capabilities
• Stay informed on emerging trends in automation and AI relevant to finance
• Help enhance internal controls, reporting systems, and accounting workflows
• Partner with leadership to develop and execute a roadmap for finance system and process improvements

Leadership, Audit & Compliance

• Assist in supervising accounting staff across general accounting, AR, AP, and payroll functions
• Provide guidance on accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous improvement–focused team environment
• Support external audits and financial reviews by preparing schedules and documentation
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience with ERP systems (Vista/Viewpoint preferred)
• Construction industry experience, including WIP and job costing
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Interest in leveraging technology, automation, and AI within accounting processes

Preferred

• CPA designation or actively pursuing certification
• Experience with AI tools, automation platforms, or advanced financial systems
• Knowledge of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
• Experience with AP automation or spend management tools
• Familiarity with data analytics or business intelligence tools
• Experience supporting ERP implementations or system upgrades
