Finance & Operations Manager
Mission-Driven Organization | Administrative Operations
Compensation: $85,000-$110,000 Location: Orange, CT - Hybrid Flexibility Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and collaborative Finance & Operations Manager to serve as the administrative and operational backbone of a specialized unit within a large, complex organization. You will oversee financial planning and analysis, manage day-to-day administrative operations, supervise support staff, and serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership. What You'll Do
Financial Management & Analysis
- Build and manage comprehensive budgets, including gathering historical data, forecasting, and multi-year financial planning
- Monitor financial performance against budget; recommend and implement adjustments as needed
- Prepare financial reports and present analysis to senior leadership
- Identify current and future funding resources; advise on efficient deployment to support organizational goals
- Partner with leadership to research and evaluate funding challenges and opportunities
Administrative Operations
- Serve as the primary liaison between the unit and central service functions including HR, IT, Facilities, Procurement, and other internal partners
- Ensure timely and effective delivery of all administrative services within scope
- Identify operational challenges and develop practical, scalable solutions in partnership with leadership
- Monitor service quality from internal and external providers; escalate concerns as appropriate
Compliance & Risk Management
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls to ensure appropriate and effective use of resources
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies, contractual obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Proactively identify and communicate risk issues; take corrective action to safeguard institutional assets and reputation
- Educate team members on relevant regulations, policies, and procedures within their scope of responsibility
People Management & Development
- Supervise, coach, and develop administrative and business office staff
- Partner with HR on hiring, performance management, employee relations, and career development
- Assess current and future talent needs; make recommendations for staff movement and professional growth
- Cultivate an inclusive team culture that values diverse backgrounds and perspectives
Strategic Partnership
- Serve as a strategic resource to unit leadership; contribute to administrative and operational priority-setting
- Translate organizational strategy into actionable operational plans and timelines
- Assess financial and non-financial resources — including funding, space, technology, and staff capacity — needed to achieve short- and long-term goals
- Surface potential issues, ideas, and solutions proactively to senior leadership
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, including demonstrated leadership, project management, and/or supervisory experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Solid foundation in accounting, financial reporting, and analysis
- Hands-on experience preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
- Proven ability to synthesize multiple streams of financial data to identify trends and actionable insights
- Strong relationship management skills with demonstrated ability to influence outcomes in a matrixed or decentralized organization
- Creativity and effectiveness when navigating complex, multi-stakeholder environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fund accounting in a nonprofit, research, or institutional environment
- Background in higher education, healthcare, government, or other complex service organizations
- Experience supporting specialized departments or program-based units
