We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Field Engineer to support the construction and implementation of process and mechanical systems for a state-of-the-art cutting-edge medical production facility in the greater Beloit, WI area. This role is ideal for an experienced field engineer who thrives in large-scale capital construction environments and enjoys solving complex field issues before they impact project execution.

The Mechanical Field Engineer will work closely with internal engineering teams, outside Engineers of Record, contractors, and vendors to ensure process systems and facility infrastructure are installed safely, accurately, and in accordance with approved designs and specifications. This role bridges the gap between engineering design and field execution, with a strong focus on piping, pumps, tubing, welding, HVAC systems, and mechanical equipment installation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and resolve field engineering and construction issues related to mechanical and process system installations.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, contractor submittals, regulatory codes, and 3D models to develop practical field solutions.
  • Conduct constructability reviews on existing and new engineering designs to proactively identify installation or operability concerns.
  • Collaborate with structural, electrical, process, and I&C engineering teams to support successful project execution.
  • Maintain configuration control by initiating and managing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and ensuring approved changes are implemented correctly in the field.
  • Generate and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and draft detailed ECR drawing markups using Adobe and Bluebeam.
  • Provide daily field oversight to verify that mechanical systems, MEP infrastructure, and plant process equipment are installed according to design specifications.
  • Monitor contractor progress, perform field walkdowns, and identify discrepancies before installation impacts schedule or quality.
  • Support quality assurance efforts by identifying non-conforming conditions and driving resolution through the NCR process.
  • Ensure work packages remain current, hold points are completed, inspections are documented, and closeout activities are finalized on schedule.
  • Participate in testing, turnover, and handoff activities to Commissioning and Operations teams.
  • Promote and reinforce a strong site safety culture through safe work practices, field coaching, and proactive issue identification.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between contractors, vendors, and engineering teams to ensure efficient communication and issue resolution.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience supporting active capital construction projects in field engineering, construction management, or work execution. OR 10+ years of field engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience supporting large industrial capital projects within industries such as nuclear, power generation, utilities, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including piping, pumps, tubing, welding, pipe supports, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in fast-paced construction environments.
  • Comfortable working in the field approximately 25–40% of the time in active construction areas.
  • Ability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting nuclear facilities or highly regulated process-driven facilities.
  • Background in design-build or EPC project environments.
  • Experience working on long-duration, multi-year construction projects.
  • Familiarity with configuration management, NCR processes, and quality assurance programs.
  • Prior experience supporting commissioning and turnover activities.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • “Muddy boots” field engineering mentality with a willingness to solve problems directly on the construction site.
  • Self-sufficient and capable of operating with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communicator who can collaborate effectively with contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Mission-driven mindset with a long-term interest in supporting innovative energy and medical technologies.
  • Comfortable working in a construction trailer environment and adapting to evolving project demands.
