Position Summary
The VP, Medical Affairs & Strategic Engagement is a senior level role that integrates the scientific rigor of a Medical Science Liaison leader, the clinical and regulatory oversight of a VP of Medicine, and the planning capabilities of a VP of Strategy. This role serves as a bridge between field medical, clinical, and business operations driving evidence-based scientific engagement, shaping medical strategy, and ensuring organizational alignment with company priorities.
This individual will provide medical oversight for programs and initiatives and serve as a strategic partner on the leadership team, helping to define and execute the broader medical affairs and scientific roadmap.
Responsibilities
Cultivate and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), academic medical centers, and healthcare institutions.
Oversee MSL field activities including medical education, developing and sharing key
messages, sharing process with health system partners
Develop and implement MSL training curricula covering disease area, product, and scientific communication competencies.
Serve as a senior scientific resource for complex medical/clinical inquiries from the field.
Provide medical and scientific oversight for promotional materials, ensuring accuracy,
compliance, and alignment with business priorities
Act as a medical resource for pharmacovigilance activities, safety data review, and benefit-risk assessments.
Collaborate with Leadership team and Research team to ensure integrated strategy
Develop and maintain therapeutic area medical expertise, serving as an internal and external medical expert.
Lead the development and execution of the integrated strategic plan in collaboration with
senior leadership.
Define and operationalize medical strategies that support adoption of independent testing of medications for system safety
Drive evidence generation strategies, including data gap analyses, real-world evidence
planning, and publication strategy.
Lead the design and execution of advisory boards, symposia, and medical education
programs.
Identify emerging trends, competitive landscape changes, and unmet medical needs to inform strategic decision-making.
Manage resource allocation for medical strategy and MSL duties

Qualifications
MD, PharmD, RN, MPH, or similar graduate degree required
10+ years' experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industry preferred
Minimum 1-3 years in a director-level or senior management role within Medical Affairs, MSL leadership, or medical strategy
Deep scientific/clinical expertise in at least one major therapeutic area (e.g., Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular, Rare Disease)
Proven ability to develop and execute medical strategies in a cross-functional, matrixed organization
Entrepreneurial mindset & comfortable with ambiguity required
Excellent communication skills - ability to translate complex scientific data for diverse audiences required
Proposal writing and negotiation experience
Clinical practice or research experience
Experience supporting product launches
Work Environment:
This position is full-time on-site in New Haven, CT with 30-50% travel
