The Opportunity

We’re hiring a Managing Partner - Accounting to step into a senior, client-facing role supporting a portfolio of long-standing, high-net-worth individual and business clients. This position will play a critical role in transitioning relationships from a retiring partner with decades of experience, creating a clear path toward firm leadership and potential Managing Partner succession within 12–24 months. You’ll join a collaborative team that includes two CPAs, two CPA associates, a senior bookkeeper/tax preparer, and an administrative assistant.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare, review, and file individual and business tax returns, including high-net-worth clients
  • Provide strategic tax planning, compliance support, and financial guidance
  • Maintain and grow long-term client relationships through a high-touch, advisory approach
  • Step into key client relationships and ensure a smooth transition from a retiring CPA
  • Lead, mentor, and collaborate with junior accountants and support staff
  • Oversee aspects of day-to-day operations and contribute to long-term firm strategy
  • Participate in year-round client work, with extended hours during peak tax season

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • Active CPA license or senior-level tax accountant with equivalent experience (CPA-eligible considered)
  • Strong background in public accounting and tax preparation
  • Experience working directly with clients, including high-net-worth individuals
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a small team
  • Willingness to work on-site in Brookings, SD

Preferred (Flexible):

  • ~5+ years of relevant experience
  • Exposure to both individual and business tax engagements
  • Interest in long-term growth, leadership, and deeper firm involvement

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Primarily on-site in Brookings, SD (minimum 4 days/week)
  • 1 remote day negotiable, with increased flexibility over time
  • Standard business hours most of the year, with extended hours during tax season

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys face-to-face client interaction and being part of the local community.

Compensation & Growth

  • Salary range: $85,000 – $105,000, depending on experience
  • Competitive, negotiable compensation structure
