We are currently partnering with a longstanding, private MN based manufacturing company on a Cost Accounting Manager position. This role partners closely with finance, accounting and operations leadership and is responsible for managing cost accounting activities while supporting project-based financial reporting and analysis supporting multiple locations. reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller
This is a hands‑on role ideal for someone with strong cost accounting roots who enjoys working cross-functionally, improving processes, and ensuring accuracy and visibility across financial operations. This will have two direct reports - leadership experience preferred but not required. Good place to take that leap into leadership!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously improve standard product costing; item setup, bills of materials, labor and overhead rates, and material pricing/yields.
- Identify and drive cost improvement opportunities.
- Analyze manufacturing variances and partner with operations to address causes and improve performance.
- Oversee EDI systems to ensure seamless and accurate transaction flow between business systems.
- Partner with Corporate Accounting to support timely and accurate monthly close and year-end audit processes
- Serve as a key financial resource to operations and administrative teams, supporting problem-solving and decision-making.
- Present financial insights to division operations leadership
- Collaborate with the FP&A Manager to ensure accounting and costing practices support financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, suppliers, and customers and ensure timely issue resolution.
- Lead and mentor accounting personnel, fostering a positive, collaborative work environment and delivering exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the accounting team to ensure all responsibilities are executed accurately and efficiently; oversee performance management, compensation reviews, and communication of policies
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required); MBA preferred.
- 5+ years of financial accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in a multi-plant and/or multi-entity environment is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
