Mid-Level Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is representing an AmLaw 100 firm seeking a mid-level associate attorney to join its Finance and Bankruptcy Practice Group in New York City.

This is a standout opportunity to work on complex U.S. and cross-border bankruptcy and restructuring matters within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary legal environment. The firm's bankruptcy team is deeply integrated with its commercial finance, real estate, tax, labor, and corporate groups, allowing associates to develop broad-based skills while handling sophisticated matters related to financial distress and insolvency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent debtors, creditors' committees, DIP lenders and borrowers, and investors in Chapter 11 proceedings
  • Draft bankruptcy petitions, first-day pleadings, disclosure statements, reorganization plans, and other key filings
  • Handle bankruptcy-related litigation, including prosecuting and defending preference, fraudulent transfer, and fiduciary duty claims
  • Advise clients on strategic planning before and during bankruptcy filings
  • Represent parties in Section 363 sales, including sellers, stalking horse bidders, and competing bidders
  • Work on foreclosures and contested plan confirmations
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys across practice areas to address the full scope of legal issues in bankruptcy matters
Qualifications:
  • 3–5 years of experience in financial restructuring and bankruptcy law
  • Strong background working with creditors' rights, distressed transactions, and bankruptcy litigation
  • Excellent writing, research, communication, and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously
  • Clerkship with a bankruptcy judge is a plus
  • Familiarity with business accounting and financial reporting issues
Education and Admission:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • Admitted to the New York State Bar
Work Environment:
  • This position is based in New York City
  • The firm currently follows a hybrid work policy requiring at least three days per week in-office (subject to change)
Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $235,000 – $390,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
