Job Title: Mechanical Engineer 2

Location: Onsite – Lafayette, IN

Contract duration: 12 months with strong potential to extend or convert

Job Summary

Seeking a Mechanical Engineer 2 to support new product introduction and product development initiatives within a large power systems environment. This role focuses on coordinating with cross-functional engineering teams to support prototype builds, product structure management, design validation, and customer-focused implementation activities. The ideal candidate will have 2–4 years of engineering experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This is a full-time onsite role with limited domestic travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Support new product introduction (NPI), new technology introduction (NTI), and continuous product improvement initiatives
  • Research, design, develop, test, and support mechanical products and systems
  • Create and maintain BOM spreadsheets and pricing arrangement structures
  • Coordinate with component and platform engineering teams to ensure program requirements are met
  • Manage prototype design parts, including ordering, shipping, and tracking for lab and field testing
  • Assist with updating operation and maintenance manuals, service guides, parts books, and related documentation
  • Investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective actions
  • Assist with engineering drawings, structural design support, and blueprint interpretation
  • Lead or participate in meetings with engineers and project stakeholders
  • Work independently while collaborating across cross-functional teams

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology required
  • 2–4 years of relevant engineering experience required (internship experience accepted)
  • Experience with CAD or other engineering software applications
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable interacting with senior engineers and leadership
  • Strong initiative, ownership mindset, and attention to detail
  • Willingness to work onsite full time
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 25% as needed
