About the Role

A mission‑driven, global organization is seeking a hands‑on Accounting Manager to support a growing finance department. This is a newly created role designed to reinforce daily operations, improve workflow efficiency, and provide oversight to two accounting staff members. The ideal candidate thrives in fast‑paced environments, communicates clearly, and brings strong managerial judgment to a small, collaborative team.

This role is available as direct hire or temp‑to‑hire, with the preference for a permanent hire.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Oversight
  • Supervise and mentor two direct reports: Accounts Payable and Staff Accountant.
  • Review all AP and Staff Accountant work to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to internal controls.
  • Act as an operational liaison between accounting staff and the Senior Director/VP of Finance.
Process Development & Workflow Optimization
  • Build and refine workflows and SOPs across the finance function to support scalability.
  • Establish process clarity across activities shared by this role and the two staff members.
  • Support a systems transition to Microsoft Sage (Intacct), contributing to process mapping and adoption.
Day‑to‑Day Accounting Management
  • Take ownership of daily accounting operations in partnership with the Senior Director of Finance.
  • Provide problem‑solving support to staff and identify operational gaps or inefficiencies.
  • Assist with budgeting, financial reporting, and audit readiness as the organization continues to grow.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with leadership to ensure transparency and timely updates on accounting operations.
  • Model and reinforce excellent communication standards across the department—highlighted as a critical need.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience with at least some managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Background in smaller organizations, start‑ups, or non‑profits preferred—environments requiring flexibility and “all‑hands” engagement.
  • Strong independent judgment and ability to make decisions without heavy oversight.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to articulate processes clearly and professionally. (Communication gaps were a central reason prior hires were not successful.)
  • Experience developing or improving workflows/SOPs.
  • Comfortable with a fast‑paced and evolving environment.
  • Medium‑to‑advanced Excel capability.
  • CPA is not required but welcomed.
Work Environment & Culture
  • Hybrid schedule with flexible accommodations for personal situations.
  • Highly collaborative, tight‑knit office of ~29 team members, predominantly female.
  • Strong sense of community: team‑building activities, monthly employee engagement events, and birthday celebrations.
  • Leadership is passionate about the mission and cultivates an inclusive, supportive culture.
Compensation
  • Full‑time salary range estimated between $80,000–$110,000, with potential flexibility up to $120,000 for exceptional candidates. [PureearthJO | PDF]
