Low-Voltage / Telecom Technician Helper Structured Cabling, Cameras & Access Control Position Summary Advantage Technology is seeking a motivated Low-Voltage / Telecom Technician Helper to join our growing field team in Frederick, Maryland. This position will assist with commercial structured cabling, telecom, Verkada camera installations, access control projects, wireless access points, telecom rooms, and other low-voltage technology work. This is a hands-on field position for someone who wants to learn the trade and grow into a full technician role. Prior cabling, construction, electrical, security, camera, or AV experience is helpful, but we are willing to train the right person who is dependable, works hard, follows directions, and takes pride in doing things the right way. The ideal candidate is reliable, coachable, physically able to do field work, and interested in building a long-term career in structured cabling, telecom, security systems, cameras, access control, and network infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Structured Cabling & Low-Voltage Support Assist lead technicians with pulling, routing, dressing, and securing low-voltage cable. Help install Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber, coax, camera cabling, access control cabling, and other low-voltage wiring. Assist with installing cable pathways, J-hooks, raceway, conduit, sleeves, cable tray, and support systems. Help build out telecom rooms, racks, patch panels, cable management, network closets, and wall-mounted equipment. Assist with installing wall plates, faceplates, network drops, wireless access points, and related infrastructure. Help keep cable runs neat, properly supported, and installed according to company standards. Cameras, Verkada & Access Control Assist with installing Verkada cameras, access control hardware, door controllers, card readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, and related equipment. Help mount cameras, wireless access points, boxes, brackets, and other low-voltage devices. Assist with camera aiming, basic testing, cleanup, and final walkthrough preparation. Help install cabling and hardware for doors, cameras, alarms, intercoms, and other security-related systems. Learn proper installation practices for IP cameras, cloud-managed security systems, PoE devices, and access control equipment. Jobsite Support Follow directions from lead technicians, project managers, and field leadership. Carry ladders, tools, materials, cable boxes, and equipment as needed. Prepare materials, organize tools, clean work areas, and help maintain a safe jobsite. Work professionally around customers, employees, tenants, and active business operations. Help reduce disruption to the customer’s business while work is being completed. Maintain a clean, safe, and professional jobsite. Documentation & Closeout Support Assist with labeling cables, patch panels, ports, racks, cameras, doors, and access control devices. Help with cable testing, photos, documentation, and closeout notes. Report completed work, issues, missing materials, or follow-up needs to the lead technician. Help make sure the job is cleaned up and ready for customer review. Required Qualifications Strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Dependable, professional, and punctual. Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team. Comfortable working on ladders, in ceilings, and on commercial jobsites. Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physical field work. Ability to stand, bend, crawl, kneel, pull cable, and work overhead for extended periods. Basic hand tool knowledge preferred. Valid driver’s license preferred. Professional attitude and good communication skills. Preferred Qualifications BICSI certification or BICSI training preferred but not required. Some experience with cabling, construction, electrical, AV, security, cameras, telecom, or networking. Familiarity with Cat6 cable, cameras, access control, wireless access points, or low-voltage work. Verkada, camera, or access control experience is a plus. OSHA 10, lift certification, or construction safety experience is a plus. Interest in growing into a Technician or Lead Technician role. Compensation Pay is based on experience, reliability, and skill level. Estimated range: $45,000 – $59,000 annually Candidates with prior cabling, camera, access control, construction, or low-voltage experience may be considered at the higher end of the range.
