Mechanical Engineer – Switchgear

Our client designs and manufactures custom-engineered switchgear, power distribution equipment, and E-Houses supporting the data center market, one of the fastest-growing sectors in electrical infrastructure today and expected to remain that way for years to come.

The company is stable, well-funded, and backed by a strong backlog of business. They have built an engineering-driven culture with an excellent work-life balance and leadership that values technical expertise and collaboration.

This is not repetitive product-line work. Every project is custom-engineered, giving you the opportunity to solve real-world design challenges tied directly to mission-critical power systems.

This is also not the kind of engineering role where you sit behind a computer screen all day. You will work closely with manufacturing, mentor others on the team, walk the production floor, and see your designs come to life from concept through fabrication and assembly. The team uses SolidWorks and AutoCAD in a highly collaborative engineered-to-order environment.

You will also have the opportunity for occasional travel, including supplier visits, customer meetings, and select field/site visits.

What You Will Be Doing

• Lead mechanical design of low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear, power distribution equipment, skids, and E-Houses

• Develop production-ready drawing packages using SolidWorks and AutoCAD

• Support layout development, including bus routing, cable management, enclosure integration, and mechanical packaging

• Collaborate closely with electrical engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams

• Provide hands-on shop floor support during fabrication and assembly

• Drive design for manufacturability and continuous improvement efforts

• Support RFQs, drawing revisions, and engineering release activities

• Mentor junior designers and support technical problem-solving across projects

What They Are Looking For

• Strong experience designing switchgear, power distribution equipment, E-Houses, or heavy electrical enclosures

• SolidWorks and AutoCAD experience required

• Experience working in an engineered-to-order manufacturing environment

• Understanding of fabrication, sheet metal, mechanical integration, and production release processes

• Experience supporting manufacturing and shop operations preferred

• Associate degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field preferred

What Makes This Opportunity Different

This is a highly visible engineering role where your work directly impacts manufacturing execution and customer delivery. You will be part of a growing organization where engineers have ownership, are trusted to make decisions, and are given the opportunity to contribute well beyond just CAD work.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to reach out confidentially. Company information will be shared during the interview process.
