Mechanical Engineer – Contract (2 Months)
Plymouth, MI
About the Role:
We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer for a short-term contract assignment supporting machine vision and automation equipment development. This role is ideal for a highly practical engineer who is equally comfortable designing in CAD and working directly on the shop floor. You will support mechanical fixture design, fabrication coordination, and equipment assembly/integration for industrial automation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical fixtures, brackets, and assemblies using SolidWorks
- Produce detailed engineering drawings for fabrication and machine shop use
- Collaborate with machine shops and vendors to ensure accurate part manufacturing
- Support hands-on mechanical assembly and integration of equipment
- Assist with fit-up, debugging, and mechanical adjustments during build and test phases
- Work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to support rapid project execution
Required Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings)
- Experience designing fixtures, tooling, or machine components
- Ability to create manufacturing-ready drawings with proper tolerancing/GD&T
- Hands-on experience in mechanical assembly and integration
- Experience working with machine shops or fabrication vendors
- Comfortable working in a shop/manufacturing environment
Preferred Experience:
- Background in machine vision, robotics, or industrial automation
- Experience with custom equipment or special machine design
- Manufacturing or tooling engineering experience
- Exposure to prototype builds and iterative mechanical development
