Position Summary
CMS Livestock Auction is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Director of Business Development & Marketing to help drive growth across our livestock marketing operations. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone with proven experience in the cattle industry who can build relationships, generate consignments, develop buyer participation, and support the continued growth of the CMS brand.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable visiting ranches, dairies, calf ranches and feedyards, attending industry events, working with buyers and consignors, creating marketing content, and representing the company throughout the region.
This position will play a critical role in expanding auction volume, strengthening customer relationships, and increasing market share.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Media
- Manage and grow CMS social media presence across multiple platforms
- Create video, photo, and social media content that promotes CMS customers, offerings, and services.
- Create and coordinate sale promotions, consignor spotlights, market reports, customer success stories, and educational content
- Capture photos, videos, and customer testimonials while traveling
- Assist with website content, auction catalogs, email marketing, and digital advertising campaigns
- Monitor marketing performance and identify opportunities to improve engagement, reach, and brand awareness
Buyer Development & Relations
- Develop and maintain relationships with cattle buyers, feedyards, backgrounders, stocker operators, and end users
- Recruit new buyers and expand buyer participation across all CMS marketing platforms
- Communicate upcoming offerings, special sales, and market opportunities to buyers
Consignor Development & Business Growth
- Represent CMS at industry meetings, trade shows, conventions, and producer events
- Identify, recruit, and retain consignors for monthly video and country market sales
- Develop and execute strategies to increase cattle volume marketed through CMS
- Build relationships with cattle producers, stocker operators, dairies, calf ranches, feedyards, and industry partners
- Travel extensively throughout cattle-producing regions to strengthen existing relationships and develop new business opportunities
- Identify strategic growth opportunities, new markets, and potential partnerships
Customer Service & Industry Representation
- Deliver exceptional service to buyers and consignors
- Maintain regular communication with customers and industry partners
- Resolve issues professionally and efficiently
- Promote the values of integrity, transparency, and service that define CMS Livestock Auction
- Serve as a professional ambassador for the company at all times
- Strengthen the CMS brand and reputation throughout the livestock industry
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the cattle industry
- Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field
- Strong understanding of feeder cattle marketing, livestock procurement, cattle feeding, or livestock auctions
- Demonstrated success in business development, sales, customer acquisition, or livestock marketing
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight travel
Preferred
- Experience with livestock auctions, cattle procurement, dairy operations, ranch management, feedyard operations, or livestock marketing
- Experience in agricultural sales or business development
- Experience in the Beef X Dairy sector
- Social media, digital marketing, photography, or content creation experience
- Existing relationships within the cattle industry
