Position Purpose

Instructional aides work under the supervision of teachers and are a viable part of the total instructional program. The services performed by instruction aide include instructional, clerical, supervisory, and behavior management duties. The overall role of the instructional aide is to provide support services to the classroom teacher. Instructional aides are expected to implement programming as directed by classroom teachers, administrators, or the Case Conference Committee. Instructional Aides are expected to follow their assigned school and the school corporation's policies.

Essential Job Functions
  • Hallway, lunchroom, passing periods, loading and unloading buses, convocations, and other supervisory duties as directed by the teacher, department chair, or principal (or designee).
  • Assisting students in activities of daily living (ADL) which are related to personal care and may include:
    • bathing/showering, dressing, transferring to/from a chair, toileting (including diaper changes, catheterization and use of a toilet), and eating (both mechanical and enteric).
  • Associated with ADL's are other activities to include, but not be limited to suctioning, medication administration, and ambulation.
  • Persons are considered to have an ADL limitation when they are dependent on another person for assistance with personal care needs because of a physical, mental, or emotional problem.
  • Some students with emotional or autistic disabilities require extraordinary self-discipline, patience and understanding.
  • Assist with other support tasks as directed by the teacher, department chair, or principal (or designee).

Travel Requirements
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Pay Rate
$15.75 per hour + .75 cent differential

Work Schedule
The position's hours will be scheduled between 6.5 and 7.5 and will be finalized at the time of hire, depending on student needs.
182 days per year
