Job Description:

The School District of Mauston is seeking applicants for a Special Education Teacher at Olson Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. With this position, the teacher will also provide instructional minutes for students attending Lemonweir Academy. The successful candidate will have the ability to create a positive and structured setting for students emphasizing learning, personal growth, social and emotional development, equitable participation for all kids, and positive peer and staff interactions. Candidates will have knowledge of positive behavior supports, differentiated instruction, secondary reading in the content area, special education law, and the development and implementation of individual education programs, functional behavior assessments, and behavioral intervention plans.

Qualifications:

Preferred applicants will possess exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, communication and organizational skills. This position requires knowledge of autism, learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disabilities as this position is a Cross Categorical assignment. Applicants are required to serve special education students in an inclusive setting. Candidates must also be able to plan and prepare high-level, creative learning units that are engaging, relevant, address student needs and are based on best practices for special education instruction. Candidates must be able to maintain a safe, respectful classroom environment; make a positive and substantial contribution to the school and district; and assume a leadership role with colleagues. Applicants must have a valid Wisconsin DPI License in Cross Categorical Special Education or be able to be licensed at the time of hire. Must pass a background check and drug screen upon offer of employment.
