PERFORMANCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Enforces adherence to establish rules and regulations of the alternative program and creates an effective climate for learning.
  2. Serves as a liaison between the classroom teacher and students assigned to the program to obtain and return the student's daily calls work and homework.
  3. Assists students assigned to the program with completing their regular classroom assignments.
  4. Maintains Alternative classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  5. Communicating accurate knowledge of a subject matter in a comprehensive manner using language and style appropriate to the learner.
  6. Uses the current references, materials, and technologies of the subject field in a manner appropriate to the developmental stage of the learner.
  7. Assigns additional work if the student completes their regular classroom assignments.
  8. Communicates appropriate behavior school rules, and regulations to students in the program; and explains to students the reasons for suspension and its impact on their education.
  9. Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to administrative and/or school policies.
  10. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  11. Guides and encourages students to develop a positive attitude toward learning.
  12. Monitors students who have been assigned to alternative school and reviews student progress.
  13. Communicates with parents and classroom teachers regarding student behavior and progress.
  14. Reports inappropriate behavior by students to professional staff members.
  15. Escorts students during break/lunch periods and monitors hallways.
  16. Maintains daily attendance and other records of students assigned to the program.
  17. Reports the effectiveness of the program to the school administrative staff and makes suggestions for improvement.
  18. Assisting the teacher with preparation and implementation of lesson plans for students based on assessed needs and in accordance with the district's philosophy and curriculum system.
  19. Preparing materials to assist students to complete classroom assignments for the teacher.
  20. Supervising students in all areas on the campus and in the building as assigned.
  21. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  22. Manages student's behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  23. All other duties assigned by Principal and/or other authorized administrators.
