Job Summary
Walgreens is seeking a highly motivated and business-oriented Corporate Counsel – Product to support its Digital and eCommerce teams. This attorney will provide strategic, practical legal advice on the development, launch, and operation of digital products, online platforms, and customer-facing technologies.
The role requires close collaboration with product, engineering, marketing, data, compliance, and information security teams to identify and manage legal risk while enabling innovation and growth across Walgreens’ digital ecosystem.

This position reports to a senior member of the Legal Department and is based in Deerfield, Illinois.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as primary legal advisor to digital product, eCommerce, mobile app, and online services teams.
Provide clear, actionable guidance throughout the product lifecycle, including ideation, development, launch, and ongoing optimization.
Advise on product features involving consumer data, personalization, loyalty programs, digital advertising, and online transactions.
Ensure compliance with consumer protection, advertising, and marketing regulations for digital channels.
Coordinate with Privacy Counsel to ensure proper compliance with relevant laws on data collection and use.
Draft, review, and negotiate agreements supporting digital and eCommerce initiatives, including:
SaaS and technology vendor agreements
Data processing and data-sharing agreements
Platform terms and online terms & conditions
Partner with procurement and business teams to structure risk-appropriate commercial terms.
Lead development and maintenance of terms of use, disclaimers, and click-through agreements.
Advise on legal considerations related to UX/UI design choices, disclosures, and user consent mechanisms.
Partner with the Privacy Office on development and maintenance of privacy policies related to digital products and services.
Collaborate with information security, regulatory, compliance, and risk teams to address legal risks associated with:
AI/ML-enabled features
Third-party integrations and APIs
Provide practical, risk-balanced solutions that align with Walgreens’ business objectives.
Monitor legal developments impacting digital commerce, including AI regulation and digital health/pharmacy tools.
Translate complex legal requirements into operational guidance for product and engineering teams.

Handles routine legal matters which generally focus on applying knowledge of one or more legal specialties
Typically receives specific direction from management or more senior law professionals as to the outcomes, process and schedules expected while developing a deeper knowledge of the business operations of the company
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to execute legal strategy
Assists on cases, matters and projects, performs and supervises research, reviews standard documents and routine contracts, and prepares routine filings.
Develops and implements internal legal policies and best practices to enhance operational efficiency
Works to develop fluency in legal concepts impacting the work performed

External Basic Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and at least three (3) years of post-bar attorney legal work experience in a combination of law firm
Required licensure to practice law in at least one state
Required Illinois bar membership or active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
Experience with time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates
Experience collaborating across business lines to develop and/or execute departmental strategies
At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross- functional team leadership.
Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state)
Preferred Qualifications:
J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Relevant legal experience, including:
In-house or law firm experience supporting digital products, technology, or eCommerce
Strong working knowledge of:
Commercial contracting for technology transactions
Consumer protection and advertising regulations
Privacy and data protection laws
Demonstrated ability to deliver practical, business-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced environment.
Experience advising on mobile apps, retail eCommerce platforms, or omnichannel consumer experiences.
Familiarity with technology ecosystems and tools.
Exposure to AI/ML, personalization technologies, or customer data platforms (CDPs).
Experience within a regulated industry (e.g., healthcare, retail pharmacy).
