What to Expect
Tesla Energy is seeking a Business Development Manager, Capital Deployment to lead a small team focused on advancing financing solutions for Megapack battery storage projects. This role will drive the standardization of financial offerings, close creative deal structures, cultivate strategic relationships with the financial community, and spearhead the launch of new investment vehicles, with the goal of enabling Megapack projects and growing sales. Tesla's balance sheet, energy market expertise, and technology leadership mean this is a unique, high-impact role with the potential to shape the market for energy storage for years to come.
The ideal candidate brings an outstanding track record of leading creative financial deals, deep expertise in US utility-scale storage and renewables, and a solid understanding of project development.
What You'll Do
- Deploy capital: Lead the end-to-end process of identifying opportunities, creatively structuring deals, evaluating risk, and closing financial offers for customer-owned large-scale battery storage projects
- Standardize offers: Develop and implement standardized financial products for Megapack customers globally, including term loans, construction financing, bridge loans, and other structures
- Build relationships: Forge and maintain strong partnerships with external banks, PE funds, and institutional investors to expand Tesla's capital deployment capabilities
- Scale investments: develop structures that multiply the impact of Tesla's investment, unlocking greater market share and market size than development alone
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience in project finance or banking, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Ideal background includes serving as a project finance lead at a renewables developer or within a bank/PE fund focused on storage or renewables investments
- Demonstrated success in launching funds or similar initiatives is essential
- Outstanding track record of closing creative financial deals
- Very strong understanding of the US utility-scale storage/renewables space, including market dynamics, regulatory environments (e.g., FERC, ISO/RTOs), and emerging trends
- Solid understanding of the full project development process, from feasibility studies and permitting to EPC contracting and operations
- Global experience is a significant plus, particularly in Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East

Expected Compensation
$80,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
